'Early Falls' - Stock Ghyll, Ambleside, Lake District, Cumbria

Close to the centre of Ambleside, the white water of Stock Ghyll Beck, tumbles down through tree-lined banks, cascading over rocks to meet the River Rothay. Its surging, turbulent energy was once harnessed to power numerous mills. In September, after heavy rains, the turning leaves and the early falls are a tranquil contrast to this elemental force.
