'Treescape' - Castleton, Derbyshire

This picture and its companion 'Three Weird Sisters' were taken During December 2005 near to Eldon Hill, Castleton, Derbyshire. I rarely use monochrome in photography, but it struck me that the essence of these images demanded that stark and striking simplicity. This landscape is ancient and elemental and the trees are a fundamental part of that geography. The name Eldon Hill is believed to derive from the local mythology that there were 'elves on t'hill'.
